FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I expect from my child’s first class?
Children settle at their own pace. Some join in straight away, others watch or stay close for a few sessions. Classes in Plymouth and Tavistock are welcoming and pressure free, so every child can participate comfortably.

What age groups do you teach?
Baby Ballet from 16 months or walking, right up to age 7. Each class is tailored to age appropriate movement and music.

Can my baby join if she has just started walking?
Yes. Little Starshine Ballet welcomes babies as soon as they are mobile, even with support. Classes use gentle ballet style movement, music, props, and playful interaction to support motor skills, sensory development, bonding, rhythm, listening, and social confidence.

Do adults stay in the room?
Yes, for 'Starlings' (walkers to 2.5 years), grown ups join in. For 'Shimmers' (ages 2 to 4), adults are warmly present and encouraged to participate. For 'Superstars', children attend without parents, but a parent or carer must remain on site for reassurance and safeguarding.

What does my child wear?
Visit our online shop for shoes, outfits, and tights. No pressure to buy straight away, you can wait until your child has settled. It's not compulsory to wear our branded outfits but it is highly recommended, especially for the older children in the afterschool classes, which the majority choose to wear.

  • Perfect sizing for all ages

  • Complete range in one place

  • Order online, collect at class, try on during the lesson, with easy exchanges if needed.

Does my child need ballet shoes?
Yes. Socks or bare feet can be slippery, while ballet shoes support balance and safe movement.

What should my child wear for the first class?
Anything comfy is fine, soft clothes they can move in easily.

Are there stage performances?
Yes. Every year children perform in our showcase, from walking babies to school age dancers, building confidence and pride.

What happens if we miss a class?
If your child misses a class, you are welcome to attend a catch‑up session at any other venue during the same term.We do not offer drop in sessions, as our programme builds week by week. Children can join at any point in the term and will be gently integrated.

What happens if a class is cancelled?

If a class is cancelled by Little Starshine Ballet, we will extend the length of future classes or reschedule where possible. If neither option is available for the teacher, any fees already paid will be refunded. Classes cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, such as adverse weather or force majeure, may not be rescheduled or refunded.

How much do classes cost?
The cost of our ballet classes is £6.50 for each 30‑minute session, payable half‑termly. Fees are taken as half‑term block bookings and follow the academic year, which is usually five to seven weeks. The following term’s fees are paid during the third and fourth week of the current term, which forms a priority rebooking window to secure your child’s place. This system is essential, as it allows us to plan thoughtfully and maintain consistent class sizes.
Fees are non‑refundable. However, if a dancer needs to withdraw from a term due to special circumstances, please contact us and we will always do our best to find a compassionate solution.

Do you offer free trial classes?

Yes, we do. If you’re unsure whether your child will enjoy the class, you’re very welcome to come along for a free trial session. It’s a lovely way to experience the atmosphere, meet the teacher and see how your little dancer settles. Simply contact us to arrange your visit and we’ll be happy to help you find the right class
